Buchan caused an upset of sorts in round nine of Omeo and District netball, banking their first four points of the season at Lindenow South.
The Wilmas went into the clash as definite underdogs, holding the ladder up, while the Swampies are having a good season, having already recorded four victories.
But Buchan was buoyed by the fact it recently drew with second-placed Swan Reach who are regarded as the only possible threat to Omeo Benambra going back-to-back.
The Wilmas gained the early advantage over the Swampies, capitalising and running out impressive 48-27 winners, in the process jumping a spot on the ladder while relegating Swifts Creek to the bottom of the table.
The Alpine Ranges maintained their unbeaten run at the bottom of the hill, outclassing third rated Bruthen 56-24.
Swan Reach returned to the winners’ list, outplaying the Demons 61-26 at the Swifts Creek Recreation Reserve.
Aleisha Cantrill, Jemma Wilkinson and Kiarna Prighel leading the way for the Swans, while Lily Mccole, Alana Jeffries and Isabel Williams battled hard for Swifts Creek.
In this week’s matches, Swan Reach will host Bruthen in the match of the round, while Buchan welcome Swifts Creek in another class where the sides look relatively well matched.
Omeo Benmabra should be much too good for Lindenow South at the top of the mountain.
