Dear Editor,- On May 21 at approximately 2.15pm, I was involved in a road accident on the Paynesville/Bairnsdale road just near the
golf course, while there were roadworks in process.
I was the motorcyclist at the time and I was going with the flow of the two cars that were in front of me at the time and when we had slow to 40 then stop, the two cars in front and I all stopped at the red light, but the car behind didn’t and she hit me and knocked me off the bike and hit the two cars in front and the driver of the first car that got hit had a whiplash.
I ended up with a dislocated leg and then had to get taken to the Alfred hospital in hospital in Melbourne by plane the next day to get three ligaments fixed in my knee.
I found out the person who hit me was a lady in her 80s with some medical condition where it effected her driving.
I was still in good spirits afterwards and I still am.
As a result, I’ve learned I’ll start giving out road safety awareness to help keep everyone safe on the roads.
My ideas:
– When you reach 65, you should get your license reviewed and repass a test.
– If you have a medical condition at no matter what age, seek a doctor or medical professional ASAP.
– If anyone is driving dangerously due to drugs, drinking, medical condition, etc. Get their registration number and report them ASAP.
– At intersections, roundabouts and roadworks, there should be motorcycle lanes put in place. Just like how there is lanes for cyclists.
And hopefully it can help keep everyone more safe.
I do love motorcycle riding and getting out to all the different pubs on a Saturday around the Gippsland areas.
It is my pride and joy.
Yours etc.,
Matt Side, Paynesville
