East Gippsland Shire is reporting that electric vehicle drivers will soon have more reasons to stop, recharge and explore Lakes Entrance, with three new EV charging stations to be installed in the library car park on Mechanics Street.
The project, a partnership between NRMA and council is progressing well, with construction expected to begin later this month.
When complete the site will include two NRMA owned 185kW DC chargers with
CCS2 and CHAdeMO plugs and one council owned 50kW DC fast charger funded through the Destination Charging Across Victoria (DCAV) grant.
All chargers will be powered by green energy, making the stop not only convenient but environmentally friendly.
Travellers using the charging stations are likely to spend time in town while they wait, grabbing a coffee, enjoying a meal, or browsing local shops, providing a welcome boost for Lakes Entrance businesses.
The project is also good news for local
residents who might be considering the switch to electric, helping to overcome ‘range
anxiety’ by increasing charging reliability
in East Gippsland.
NRMA is funding a new underground electricity supply, and the necessary AusNet network upgrade is scheduled to be complete by the end of August. Civil and electrical works will begin several weeks prior.
