The Australian Bowls Open is currently being played on the Gold Coast in Queensland.
The men’s open singles preliminary rounds have just concluded, with Sale’s Stephen Chalmer the only Gippsland Bowls Region bowler to progress to the coveted main draw.
Chalmer will play Western Australian Gary Ford in the first round on Saturday at Club Helensvale.
Other region bowlers to compete included Sale’s Ian Jones (third in section), Shane Dove (second in group) and Keith Pritchard (also second).
Maffra was well represented with Geoff Crawford, Ron Orchard and Geoff Landy finishing second in their groups and Geoff Bedggood third.
West Sale gun, Wayne Morris could only finish second, while teammate Paul Gallagher was fourth in round robin.
Journeyman Wayne Jones also finished second in his division, as did Stratford’s
Jason White.
