Metung Yacht Club (MYC) junior squad presentations were held recently with a theme of ‘attend as the name of the boat you own or would like to own’.
There were some excellent costumes on display, Noah Hack and his father Michael dressed as Noah’s Ark, Noah winning the best dressed youth award.
Amanda Hack dressed as Robin Hood and received the best dressed adult award.
Lenora Moresi was dressed as a Bull Ant, and received the award for best dressed child.
Commodore Peter Kanat commended the many parents who supported junior squad training volunteered on safety boats, assisting with training and helping organise the sail boats and provided refreshments at the end of a morning’s sailing practice.
He said it was also fantastic to see the representation from the MYC junior squad at the Easter regatta organised by Sandringham Yacht Club and held at Metung each year.
The junior club champions were named from the Easter regatta: Jimmy Henger and Clementine Moresi.
Moresi could not attend the presentation evening and she was represented by her sister Harriet.
Junior squad coach Rod Edwards said the choice of club champions was based on the season-long contribution of junior squad members, culminating in their performance sailing seven races in a fleet of 12 cadets over the Easter regatta.
Henger and Moresi sailed together throughout the regatta and earned the points to out-perform other squad members.
The commodore commended Rod Edwards and Kim Bond for 10 years of contribution to the MYC junior squad, with Edwards leading the group as head coach.
The pair have now retired from their roles on the junior squad.
Edwards said MYC’s support of the junior squad was exemplary with several dinghies owned by the club that are used by junior sailors.
He also commended the individual senior members of MYC who buy new sails and spinnakers for the junior squad to use.
“Good equipment helps the kids appreciate their sport and do well at it,” Edwards said.
