Bairnsdale Production Line Theatre Company’s production of Come From Away has one more weekend of shows to go before wrapping up for this season.
Beginning with an evening performance on Thursday and concluding with a matinee on Sunday at 2pm, time is fast running out to secure a seat.
Set in Gander, Newfoundland – fondly known as ‘The Rock’ – Come From Away brings to life the true story of the day 38 planes, nearly 7000 passengers and a petting’s zoo’s worth of animals were diverted to Gander International Airport on Tuesday, September 11, 2001.
While those in attendance at previous shows may have cried at times, they have also laughed and cannot stop raving about the high standard of talent on offer right here in Bairnsdale.
Production Line Company president, Susan Gibson, is thrilled with the feedback she has received in response to the first two weekends of performances.
“This production was a team effort and I am extremely proud of everyone involved. I am absolutely delighted with the reception from the East Gippsland audiences to such a heart-warming story,” Susan said.
For all the praise and adulations the cast might receive, the unsung heroes of any quality production are the set builders, the costume designers, the prop makers and a host of other unseen but essential roles.
Committee member and all-round problem solver, Roy Rooney, is the one behind the massively impressive tree trunks that can be seen on stage for Come From Away this year. Designed to convey a sense of the Canadian wilderness, coming up with a dozen giant trunks is no easy feat, but Roy has delivered in spades.
“I couldn’t be more pleased with what the team have achieved this year. Fiona and Graeme Venables put a lot of labour into painting these magnificent trees and it’s all come together
beautifully, I could not be happier,” Roy said.
“Someone told me they were so emotionally invested in the story being shared with them, that they really believed Ellyn (Mckenzie) was that pilot on that plane in Gander. Mission accomplished I say.”
Do not miss out on the chance to experience this moving story of resilience, compassion and friendship.
Seen it already? Then come along to ‘The Rock’, one more time.
Come From Away is on again at The Forge Theatre for one more weekend, beginning
