The Probus Club of Bairnsdale recently visited the Lakes Entrance Fisherman’s Co-Op.
The group was given a guided tour of the co-op and some background information on the work of the business.
More than 20 trawlers operate from the port and once unloaded fish are put into cold storage before being distributed to local restaurants and shops with the majority being sent to the Melbourne Seafood Centre and the Sydney Fish Market as well, of course, to the adjoining Off the Wharf cafe and restaurant.
Staff demonstrated opening oysters for sale in the co-op fish shop and restaurant, as well as filleting mirror dory.
At the conclusion of the tour the group went to the Off the Wharf cafe and restaurant where everyone enjoyed an excellent seafood meal.
The group was appreciative of the time given by the co-op staff and also the excellent meal enjoyed in the restaurant.
