Lakes Entrance Cricket Club signed off another season at the Central Hotel last week.
Both the senior and junior presentations were held with some significant goals achieved in a great season for the mighty Seagulls.
The club’s “A” grade side was resurgent, towards the top of the ladder for most of the season, culminating in victory in the Bairnsdale Cricket Association one-day premiership over Lindenow South Glenaladale, breaking a 20-year drought.
Unfortunately the form didn’t continue in the two-day finals where the Seagulls were disappointingly bundled out by competition runner-up Wy Yung on the first day of a scheduled two-day semi final.
Now they have had a taste, Lakes is keen to push forward next season in search of that elusive two-day premiership silverware.
In the juniors, with numbers throughout the competition low, the Seagulls bucked the trend having two sides in the under 13 competition, which were well coached by Northern hemphishere recruits, Jack Timms and Sam Kincaid.
The club is hoping to re-enter the under 16 competition in the not too distant future, as they attempt to sustain long-term cricket programs for local youngsters to enjoy for years.
Josh Sackfield picked up the major award on the evening, the Lindsay Davidson Club Championship, after an outstanding season with bat and ball.
The “A” grade batting award was taken out by Jack Timms, with Sam Kincaid successful in the bowling and Phani Kumar the recipient of the captain’s award.
In “B” grade, the champion player was taken out by James Daly, while Laurie Thomson had a great season, culminating in both the batting and bowling average awards.
The captain’s award was won by Jack Reggardo, while Harper Davis was honoured to be awarded the Charlie Owen Young Cricketer of the Year.
In the under 13 Maroon team, awards went to Declan Bills (coach’s award), Sienna Matthews (most improved), Levi Poynton (bowling) and Remi Perera (batting), while in the White side presentations were made to Mack Anderson (coach’s award), Kade Watson (bowling) and Lucas Walker (batting).
The hard working Ben John was the winner of the club’s best clubman award.
