Positions open on council agriculture committee

21 March 2025
in Primary Producer

East Gippsland Shire Council has announced it is currently seeking Expressions of Interest for positions on its Agriculture Sector Advisory Committee.

Applications are encouraged from agriculture operators, agribusiness owners and community members with relevant experience and interest in the agriculture sector.

In recognition of the importance of a strong and resilient agriculture sector, East Gippsland Shire Council formed the committee in 2021 to provide timely and informed insight into the issues that are impacting on the agriculture sector and to support a strong, competitive and sustainable economy which is essential for the future of rural and regional areas.

Since the formation of the committee, the members have provided advice and information into the Economic Development Strategy, Environmental Sustainability Strategy, Road Safety Strategy, written submissions for the Sustainable Water Strategy and Rural Land Use Strategy, advocated and supported Council advocacy through to the State and Federal Government, and contributed to the design of the 2021 Farmer Survey Feedback report.

Council is seeking members to the Committee that will be representative of a diverse knowledge base including:

– Companies / businesses / family or individual Agriculture Sector practitioners

– Nature of operation (eg. retail, manufacturing, horticulture, fishing/aquaculture, cropping, animal agriculture, apiary, viticulture, dairy, etc.)

– Location of operation and size of operation (e.g. large, medium, small)

– Other considerations e.g. Board/Committee membership/experience

For comprehensive information about the Committee, please refer to the “Charter V2” on Council’s website: East Gippsland Agriculture Sector Advisory Committee Charter.

You can download the ASAC Expression of Interest form from council’s website by no later than Monday, March 24.
