The Bairnsdale KeenAgers Table Tennis program was established in November 2001 and is still going strong 23 years later.
The initial program was sponsored with finance from Vic Health under the “active for life” program in association with Table Tennis Victoria.
The sponsorship may have gone but the Monday and Thursday morning focus is still keeping active and the benefits of socialising with others of a similar mindset.
KeenAgers cater for all standards of participation from beginners to expert, as well all levels of mobility, with the exercise being non-competitive and in an inclusive environment.
The major part of the program is to get people out of the house and involved, with the table tennis a secondary component.
Strong friendships are made and sometimes lost over the table tennis table but the cuppa at half time is where the problems of the world are solved.
The Bairnsdale KeenAgers play at the Bairnsdale Squash and Table Tennis Centre so if you are looking to meet more people or to get active head along.
The facilities are excellent, with plenty of opportunities for people to get involved.
Whether you are a regular competition player or prefer a casual game from time to time, you will find plenty of fun and enjoyment here.
While the KeenAgers main interest is in table tennis for older people, they also foster the game for people with disabilities – mainly through in-house sessions weekly and assisting with participation in state or regional tournaments.
