The issue of flat barriers that were placed at the front of parking spaces on the lake side of the Esplanade in Lakes Entrance are still causing concern for pedestrians with falls regularly being reported.
Approximately three years after construction of the new streetscape along the Esplanade, the concrete parking barriers are still not visible enough to the public according to local residents and now visitors to the town.
A holiday maker from New South Wales recently tripped on the barrier and fell. She had injuries that required hospital treatment and some days later visited the Lakes Post to vent her anger at the situation.
She still had severe facial bruising on her chin and cheek, lacerations and a swollen wrist.
“I thank all the residents who came rushing to help when it happened, many of whom said they had tripped on them or had a near miss,” she said.
“I am strongly calling for these barriers to be removed, or if that is not possible at least paint them in bright safety colours to allow pedestrians to see them. At the moment they are the same colour as the asphalt.
“If they do not do something, they are not observing public safety,” she said.
