Residents, businesses and visitors are being invited to share their views on how water should be managed in Lakes Entrance and surrounding areas.
A new survey is now open, giving community members an opportunity to help shape future plans for water security, improved services and environmental sustainability.
East Gippsland Shire Council, in partnership with East Gippsland Water, catchment-management authorities, and the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA), is developing an Integrated Water Management (IWM) Plan for Lakes Entrance, Kalimna, Lake Tyers, Lake Bunga and Toorloo Arm.
The plan will focus on improving water, wastewater and stormwater services to support long-term sustainability.
Mayor Cr John White said water plays a vital role in supporting the region’s economy and overall wellbeing.
“Water is essential to our way of life. It supports tourism, farming, fishing and local households, while keeping our rivers and landscapes healthy,” Cr White said.
“This is an opportunity for the community to help shape a plan that meets future needs and protects this valuable resource.”
The mayor noted that local knowledge will be key to developing the plan.
“We want to hear from residents, business owners, and visitors about the issues that matter most,” Cr White said.
“By working together, we can make sure our water resources are well managed for generations to come.”
More opportunities for community input will follow. The current survey is open now until Friday, March 14.
