The Rotary Club of Bairnsdale Sunrise was delighted to hand over the cheque to fully fund the first year’s subscription to implement Motiview for the residents of Bairnsdale Parklands Care Community.

Motiview is a video library helping seniors to remember, as they pedal and share stories with those around them. The subscription allows residents to cycle (view cycle routes) around the world, complete with local sounds and scenery, as they pedal on suitable cycling devices.

Motiview not only entertains but also encourages fitness of mind and body and social interaction, as pedallers explore a “window to the world”, while exercising together.

The subscription also includes local, familiar cycle routes, which will help the residents to trigger memories of their earlier lives, such an important anxiety and stress-reducing therapy for the elderly, especially for those living with dementia.

Stationary cycling is a safe, low impact activity which improves heart-lung health and muscle tone, reducing the incidence of falls and improving mobility and independence. Aged care staff worldwide report that Motiview’s engagement of residents reduces their workload, thereby enhancing the level of care staff can provide.

Every October, the Motiview subscription includes participation in “Road Worlds for Seniors”, the only indoor world cycling championship for seniors and people with dementia.

Road Worlds for Seniors will open up an opportunity for wider community engagement for the residents at Opal, creating an engaging, inclusive and memorable experience for residents, families, staff and volunteers in October 2025. Everyone will be encouraged to participate, regardless of ability.

While the Motiview subscription will be fully funded by the Rotary Club of Bairnsdale Sunrise, Bairnsdale Parklands Care Community would welcome community support to assist funding of additional cycling devices and becoming involved in this project.

Volunteers from Bairnsdale Sunrise will be assisting with getting Motiview up and running. Anyone interested in helping to sup-port Motiview for Opal residents are encouraged to contact Bairnsdale Parklands Care Community.
