The Third International Art Textile Biennale, a vibrant showcase of innovative artworks by 39 artists representing 10 countries was recently launched in Bairnsdale by the Honourable Darren Chester MP.

The exhibition is on display at East Gippsland Art Gallery until March 22, when it will travel to regional galleries across the country for a season of 20 months.

“The Biennale is more than an exhibition; it is a celebration of the intricate tapestry that brings together artists, curators, and audiences from around the world, fostering a deeper connection and understanding of textile arts,” Fibre Arts Australia founder, Glenys Mann said.

The major prize winner was Sue Coppock from Australia for her work, Appearing to be Yourself, created out of embroidery thread and fencing mask.

The winner of the Australian Excellence Award was Claudia Mazzotta for her work, Untouched Terrains, created out of antique linen cloth remnants, acrylic paint and watercolours.

The winner of the Glenys Mann Award was Nicola Oliver, Australia for her work, Shadows Where Life Once Was, created from needle felt.

Pip Hoy with her work Abandon, as in to indulge, 1728 hand cut fabric dots stitched onto fabric.
