With only two rounds remaining in Gippsland Bowls Region midweek pennant, the top three appears to be in place with defending champion Lakes Entrance certain to finish on top.
Lakes Entrance won its 11th match of the campaign on Tuesday in round 12 action, eclipsing Heyfield at home comfortably 77-36.
Maurice Carroll, Margaret Brandhoj, Bill Rowley and Jo Martin led the way with an exceptional 32-11 victory, well-supported by Jenny and Kevin Dowie, Mike McKay and Jim Northe who were just as impressive winning 29-9.
The rink between Heyfield’s Mick Matarczyk, Maureen Kelly, Sandra and Shane Holmes tied with Lakes’ highly-rated combination of Eric Spence, Michael Bratt, Wallace Mason and Kevin Brown, 16-16.
In division two second placed Lakes Entrance 3 was a 55-48 winner over Howitt Park in Bairnsdale.
It will probably need one more win against Paynesville or Lindenow to lock away a finals berth.
Winners for Lakes 3 were Max Towan, Treen Norder, Peter Taylor, Geoffrey Rawlings (17-16) and Margaret Simpson, Joseph Hales, David Ramsay and Greg Bertram (19-13).
Angelo Alonso, Jeanette Rowley, Sharon Hall and Rob Norder escaped with a draw.
Lakes Entrance 2 kept its finals hopes alive with an emphatic 89-43 victory over Lindenow, but it still sits 11 points ajar of third-placed Orbost, who it plays this week in a season-defining clash.
Leading the way for Lakes 2 were Julie Rowe, Alan Light, Charles Lesiw and Sam Berlingeri who dominated 39-14, well-supported by Ruth and Boyd McPhee, Stan Short, Hayden Lancaster (24-14), and Dawn Irwin, Lynton Rathjen, Will Gilbert and Peter Howie (26-15).
In division three powerhouse Lakes 4 was too good for Bairnsdale Golf winning 46-32. It will finish on the top of the ladder.
Winners were Dianne Scott, Frank Detering, Heather Todd, John Kimberley (24-15) and Ian Gray, Charlie Abela, John and Carol Hurren (22-17).
Lakes Entrance 5, who sits in fourth place had the bye, is likely to just pull up short in their quest for finals glory.
