Despite the oppressive heat which caused many breaks, two exciting days of play were conducted in the Gippsland Bowls Region state men’s and ladies’ singles, with Lakes Entrance players in the thick of the action.
Round robin matches were conducted last Saturday with the Bairnsdale Bowling Club hosting the start of the finals on Sunday.
The ladies division is down to just two, with Lakes Entrance state representative Julie Simpson set to play Paynesville young gun Lacey Kiss in the grand final.
Kiss defeated another Lakes player, Lilibeth Hochkins, in the semi finals 25- 13, while Simpson accounted for another young gun, Bairnsdale star Ayla Romanin in the other semi final.
Simpson has been in outstanding form throughout the event knocking off Paynesville’s Rhonda Sadovsky in the quarter finals 25-13.
Sadovsky beat tournament favourite, current Lakes Entrance ladies’ club champion Joanne Martin in the round robin stage.
The men’s section has progressed to the semi final stage with Paynesville’s Darren Aurisch drawn to play Bairnsdale’s Stewart Pyers, while current Lakes Entrance club champion Bradley Lancaster will play Bracken Edwards who led the Lakes Entrance 1 resurgence in weekend pennant in the lead up to Christmas.
Despite the heat play was competitive and the cream has risen to the top, with the finals to be played at a venue and date to be announced.

While the winner of men’s minor singles was Steve Smith, who defeated Ian Morris in a high quality finale.
